Singapore retrenchments in Q3 2026 (4,800): what software engineer, data engineer, financial analyst and accountant jobs pay at your years
MOM reported 4,800 retrenchments in Q3 2026. What Singapore job postings list for four roles in the sectors hit, and how fast postings thin out after 5 years.
TL;DR (30 Oct 2026, Singapore): MOM's advance release says 4,800 workers were retrenched in Q3 2026, up from 4,620 in Q2 and the most since 2020 (Reuters). Information & communications and financial services were among the sectors with elevated retrenchments. For people re-entering the market, Singapore job postings list: software engineer $5,500–8,000 a month (786 postings), data engineer $6,000–8,300 (411), financial analyst $5,000–7,000 (203) and accountant $4,000–5,500 (553). The catch: postings thin out sharply after 5 years' experience, so the more senior you are, the fewer doors there are.

The waiting maths: hold out for more pay, or take the fast offer?
An illustration, not advice:
- Six months out of work on an $8,000 salary = $48,000 of pay gone.
- A new job paying 20% more = +$1,600 a month.
- $48,000 ÷ $1,600 = 30 months just to break even.
- Taking a same-pay offer at month 2 instead costs $16,000. The +20% job, waited out to month 6, needs 20 months to catch up on the $32,000 difference.
So the better offer takes about 20 months to pull ahead, and after that it keeps paying more. Which side you pick depends on your savings and how sure the better offer is.
